Edit 7.19.08: Added the companion cube, and realized that Chell has blue eyes

Here is my rendition of [Mi]Chell[e] from the awesome game Portal. She is positioned for us in 'The Pose' graciously holding the chip of the game's villian, the evil AI GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System), between her legs while holding the infamous portal gun. If you haven't played the game yet, you're missing out! The game is rather short but it definitely shines in it's deep story and very clever gameplay physics.

On her knees are the implanted 'Heel Springs' which are meant to keep her from taking damage when falling from high places, they also make her walk in a very cat-like fashion (sexy)

So, talk about nightmare to put together, guess how many braincells I burned figuring out all the reflected angles and viewpoints.

This is the first piece where i actually incorporated reflections. I know the portal gun and GLaDOS are matte white and not so reflective, but i felt this project was a good place to try it out so i added some reflections on the gun, and on GLaDOS of her legs.

And for those who are worried about the whereabouts of your weighted companion cube, the viewpoint is from the cube! if you look closely at the side portal you'll see a piece of the cube as well as a partial reflection on the gun.

I had a really fun time doing the shading, the presence of three seperate angles allowed me to show her legs and how the main light source changes with the angle.

Silly enough, one of the hardest things when making this piece was the background. I had to put Chell in a corner, but i didn't want to make the piece seem claustrophobic, it all came together after i added the background images from the other portals and started adding the light on the top left.

I used my own in game footage and the picture found in wikipedia [link]:Portal_Chell.jpg as reference for Chell. It seems Chell's face and body was actually based on voice actress Alesia Glidewell and she looks somewhat different, but it's alright I suppose.

I thank Vanessa for doing the modeling for this pose, I did a lot of preliminary sketches before i went ahead and did a clean version on the computer.

The entire image took about 12 hours to do total.

Begging me for more.
Clever how you've shown off the feet to such good advantage! Love the reflection in the gun, too.

I still am not crazy about the eyes.

Beautiful use of perspective, giving us every view of this fine lady. I haven't played Portal, but this really raises my interest. Excellent work.

Lead us not into temptation... Just point us in the general direction and we'll find it ourselves.
thanks DL, the wacky physics is more than enough reason to play the game
